Traditional courtyard gates and railings for a classical country house

Penchard were commissioned to manufacture and install automated gates and railings for two courtyards at a magnificent Wiltshire country house. A demanding project incorporating four sets of gates and 70m of railings.

Traditional methods of blacksmithing were applied to create focal railing panels details incorporating leaf work, riveting and different types of scrolls, including Penny scrolls, bolt-end scrolls, bevel edge scrolls and pig tails.

The challenge of matching the railings to the brick and stone walls was a vital task to the success of the project. As you will notice in the pictures, they curve two ways – a demanding skill that Penchard are masters of.

Working closely with the architect we competently designed the scrollwork, providing full detailed drawings for the client to approve – a service that you get exclusively from Penchard with such ornate metalwork.

It was a privilege to work for a client who appreciates this traditional art of metal working.
